Why Old Fashioned American?

A note from the owner.

When I was a boy my toys said " Made in America" on them.

The tools my father used, and the goods my grandfather sold said "Made in America" on them.

My Grandmother, and my Aunts were the best people I still have ever known- morally upright, selfless, generous and good- daughters of a man and a woman who "Came to America"

As I grew up, I screwed up, like every teenager does. I wallowed. I wandered. But I never forgot the example that was shown to me. I never forgot those moral people who looked after me, who did the best they could, for whomever they could, whenever they could. I never forgot their support, and what inspired it.

"Made in America" became synonymous with doing things right, with being good to other people, with working hard to make something for yourself... with Family.

I had to go all the way to a mountain top in Tibet to learn that that was enough; to learn that what had been instilled in me was special, and alongside the skills I acquired working in business and trades throughout the years, could be combined into a good and honest endeavour.

I decided to grow up. To Focus. To Invest in Myself. To use my white collar and blue collar skills together. To use my inherent creativity and combine it with my unique determination.

I started Old Fashioned American Painting Co.

When I came up with our slogan, I wanted it to be simple and clear. I wanted it to say what I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. I wanted people to know they would get what they paid for, that I would be truthful and grateful, and that I would do my very best. I wanted them to understand that although we all have to make a living, I would care about my work and that they weren't just dollar signs to me. They, too, were people with families who also worked hard to make something for themselves and for those they love and care about.

And now, when you see our logo with the brushes crossing the piston, you know what it means… Like the V8 GMC Sierra, my Father built from scratch or the house my Uncle built from the ground up….

At Old Fashioned American, we believe success is best shared, and giving back is at the heart of everything we do. As a locally owned painting, siding, and restoration company, we're honored to sponsor local nonprofit events that strengthen our community. We’re blessed to be in this position because of our amazing clients who put their faith in us. Their trust in us for their home and business improvement needs allows us to pass that faith forward—whether it’s painting the local Dairy Queen pro bono, teaming up with the Pawcatuck Fire Department to provide bikes for kids (and even giving our time to teach them to ride!), or hosting giveaways and raising funds for veterans' mental health.
